Traditional Handicrafts and Horticulture

LAHO is a Timorese NGO situated in the village of Triloca 12km from the city of Baucau and is a Moriculture (silk) and Horticulture Training Centre. LAHO operates throughout the Baucau District with farming groups producing silk and women’s groups working in traditional cotton production. Support to LAHO has included the rebuilding of their silkworm rearing shed, supply of cotton and wool for production and ongoing promotion of LAHO products. We have purchased silk products from LAHO to promote in Australia and they are already proving very popular. This natural Silk is a unique and innovative development in Timor-Leste. The silk makers are focusing on the traditional methods of hand spinning and weaving. The silk is naturally dyed and colour fast using local plants from Triloca village.
