Paul Kelly Concert 2003
In 2003, Paul Kelly began his support of Life, Love and Health with a concert in Collingwood Town Hall. This was Life, Love and Health’s first big event to bring together supporters of Timor-Leste and raise awareness of the struggle to build the newest nation on earth - after such a long and devastating era of occupation.
‘Freedom Rising’ CD
In 2004, Paul Kelly and Luke Gosling, (joint founder of Life, Love & Health with Dan Findlay), teamed up to produce the ‘Freedom Rising’ CD. Paul Kelly also visited Timor-Leste in 2004 with Life, Love and Health to perform in a Rejuvenation concert. On this visit, Paul saw first hand the Timorese people’s need for assistance and he also came to know their warmth, courage and tenacity.
Thanks to Paul Kelly’s support, Missy Higgins, The Living End and Casey Chambers, the Hoodoo Gurus, Sime Nugent and other Australian and Timorese artists gave their time and many previously unreleased tracks to the fundraising project Paul Kelly has described as a “labour of love”. Please contact us if you would like to purchase a CD.
Debt of Honour DVD
You can also assist our work by purchasing our DVD ‘Debt of Honour’. This explores the unique bond which developed between the Australian soldiers and their Timorese companions who tried to defend Australia from a Japanese invasion during the Second World War by securing Timor. When the INTERFET Force went into Timor-Leste in 1999, General Peter Cosgrove also referred to the debt of honour which the Australians owed to the Timorese.
Timor Gathering Melbourne Concert 2006
Paul Kelly & The Boon Companions, The Hoodoo Gurus and Sime Nugent joined forces at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre in October 2006 in a charity fundraiser for Timor-Leste.
Once again Paul Kelly (accompanied by The Boon Companions), Sime Nugent and The Hoodoo Gurus donated their time to show their support for the Timorese people.
The Timor Gathering concert and Freedom Rising CD were the most successful to date in terms of funds raised, numbers of participants, awareness generated, and media coverage received.
The proceeds were a huge boost in enabling us to expand our projects to promote health and sustainability in Timor-Leste.
These projects introduced LL&H to so many generous and talented artists who successfully connected LL&H to a broad audience, raising significant funds, and engaging people through media and direct participation. The audience members would not otherwise have known about the work of LL&H or in many cases, the situation in Timor-Leste.
The Timor Gathering concert was generously supported by the Athenaeum Theatre, EMI, Johnston Audio Services, Melody Management, Millmaine Entertainment, One Louder Entertainment and Ticketmaster.
Donations
We are fortunate that we now have a loyal network of supporters who contribute so much by volunteering their time, talent and expertise - or making donations. If you would like to make a donation, please refer to our Donations Page for further information.
Events in Timor-Leste
As well as the events in Melbourne, we have also organised events in Timor-Leste. These have brought together participants from several nations to raise an international profile and help the Timorese celebrate their anniversaries of independence and move forward as the world’s newest nation.
